Neutrino mass from future high redshift galaxy surveys: sensitivity and detection threshold
نویسندگان
چکیده
We calculate the sensitivity of future cosmic microwave background probes and large scale structure measurements from galaxy redshift surveys to the neutrino mass. We find that, for minimal models with few parameters, a measurement of the matter power spectrum over a large range of redshifts has more constraining power than a single measurement at low redshifts. However, this improvement in sensitivity does not extend to larger models. We also quantify how the non-Gaussian nature of the posterior distribution function with respect to the individual cosmological parameter influences such quantities as the sensitivity and the detection threshold. For realistic assumptions about future large scale structure data, the minimum detectable neutrino mass at 95 % C.L. is about 0.05 eV in the context of a minimal 8-parameter cosmological model. In a more general model framework, however, the detection threshold can increase by as much as a factor of three. Neutrino mass from future high redshift galaxy surveys 2

Probing neutrino masses with future galaxy redshift surveys
We perform a new study of future sensitivities of galaxy redshift surveys to the free-streaming effect caused by neutrino masses, adding the information on cosmological parameters from measurements of primary anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Our reference cosmological scenario has nine parameters and three different neutrino masses, with a hierarchy imposed by oscillation ...

We show that galaxy redshift surveys sensitively probe the neutrino mass, with eV mass neutrinos suppressing power by a factor of two. The Sloan Digital Sky Survey can potentially detect N nearly degenerate massive neutrino species with mass mν ∼ 0.65(Ωmh /0.1N) eV at better than 2σ once microwave background experiments measure two other cosmological parameters. Significant overlap exists betwe...

Large future galaxy cluster surveys, combined with cosmic microwave background observations, can achieve a high sensitivity to the masses of cosmologically important neutrinos. We show that a weak lensing selected sample of > or approximately 100,000 clusters could tighten the current upper bound on the sum of masses of neutrino species by an order of magnitude, to a level of 0.03 eV. Since thi...
متن کاملDetermining neutrino properties using future galaxy redshift surveys
Current measurements of the large-scale structure of galaxies are able to place an ∼ 0.5 eV upper limit on the absolute mass scale of neutrinos. An order-of-magnitude improvement in raw sensitivity, together with an insensitivity to systematic effects, is needed to reach the lowest value allowed by particle physics experiments. We consider the prospects of determining both the neutrino mass sca...

The relic neutrinos are expected to acquire a bulk relative velocity with respect to the dark matter at low redshifts, and neutrino wakes are expected to develop downstream of the dark matter halos. We propose a method of measuring the neutrino mass based on this mechanism. This neutrino wake will cause a dipole distortion of the galaxy-galaxy lensing pattern. This effect could be detected by c...
